The symposium was organized in coordination with Prof. Mohammed Ibrahim, University Project Coordinator, and Dr. Tharwat Al-Embaby, Faculty Project Coordinator. The symposium was delivered by Prof. Magdy Wakwak and Prof. Mohammed Ibrahim.
The symposium aimed to introduce one of the most prominent national initiatives in promoting cultural awareness. The National Reading Project is a pioneering initiative that seeks to foster a culture of lifelong learning, discover talents, and strengthen national belonging, in alignment with Egypt’s vision for human development and the Sustainable Development Goals in the light of Egypt Vision 2030.
The symposium addressed several key themes, most notably “Building the Reader’s Character”, emphasizing the role of reading in nurturing a passion for knowledge. Reading was also described as nourishment for both mind and soul, enhancing listening and communication skills, and promoting conscious and rational thinking.
In its second theme, the symposium discussed the issue of declining reading habits, shedding light on its negative impact on cultural identity and its role in the spread of misinformation and rumors. In this context, the project objectives were reviewed, focusing on raising awareness and enhancing critical thinking skills to help students distinguish between accurate and misleading information.
The symposium concluded with an emphasis on the ongoing support provided by the faculty to students throughout all stages of participation, aiming to prepare a well-informed and cultured generation capable of honorable competition and representing both the faculty and the university in a manner befitting their academic standing.
